Why the Bible and not the Qur'an? - Part 2

In my last post, I agued that the Qur'an has no significant credentials to substantiate its claim to be the Word of God. I turn now to the question of the Bible's credentials.

There are many evidences for the historical reliability of the Bible and several "secondary" arguments for its divine inspiration (e.g, fulfillment of prophecy, unity, etc.). However, it seems to me that there is one very powerful primary argument for the Bible's divine inspiration. It has the virtue not only of being powerful, but also extraordinarily simple. Here it is: The Bible is divinely inspired (i.e., it is the Word of God) because Jesus says so!

Hi Dr. Cowan

I've had conversations with a couple of different Muslims on the topic of the Bible and the Qur'an. I think "Jesus says so" would have been an unfruitful argument in those particular circumstances.

When they bring up "produce a surah like it", it's our golden opportunity. Flip over to Matthew 5, start reading as long as they'll stay with you. Try to come out of the conversation with one fewer Bible than you started with, having given yours to them if they're interested enough. Bookmark where you were reading so they can pick up there later, use red-letter versions if possible.

And no argument about comparative reliability compares to reading the parables of the lost or "the sheep and the goats" together.

Take care & God bless
WF

Its supposed to be your own work, posting someone else's work doesn't actually address the Qur'anic challenge.
