Worldviews
The Newsletter of the Apologetics Resource Center
November - December 2006
Time
to Renew
Each year at the beginning of December we notify
our Worldview subscribers that we need you to renew your
FREE subscription. Even though it is free, we want
to be good stewards of our resources and only send Worldviews to those who want
it. So check the renewal box at the end of the newsletter and send it back to
us. Or, contact us at and renew that way. All regular
donors
will automatically continue to receive it.
We do want you to renew.
The Apologetics Resource Center (ARC) provides a very important
strategic
ministry to the body. The Church is losing ground in
redemptively, knowledgably engaging people and culture
with the truth claims of Christianity.
As a result the Church and many individual Christians are accommodating the
philosophies and lifestyles of the world and are experiencing
deception and disillusionment.
ARC is about "understanding
the times and the alien philosophies opposed to God's
truth as well as helping to effect God's people both in
knowing
God's
truth and being the truth in our houses, neighborhood, church, and culture." Visit
and study our website, www.arcapologetics.org.
In short we are here
to alert, inform, stimulate and equip you and others. Worldviews
and our journal, Areopagus,
are two of the ways we do that. Stay
with us!
The Gift of Truth
ARC's
Areopagus journal provides knowledge of God's truth as
it applies to various topics in the field of Christian
thought, apologetics and life. We
produce 6 issues per year for $25.00. Register online or on the form on
page 7.
Before we began advertising
in World magazine we were losing money with each issue
but knew this was a
valuable resource - bridging the gap between scholars
and lay people. After the World ads, the exposure and endorsements of Areopagus
more than doubled our subscriptions!
The Areopagus journal
subscription makes a wonderful Christmas, birthday, or
just a thoughtful
gift. Also you don't want to miss out on back issues.
There
are now 30 back issues available ($5 each) on topics such as Islam, Roman
Catholicism, New Age, Mormonism, Jehovah's Witnesses, Alternative Medicine,
Christian View
of Art, Logic, Canonicity, Inspiration and Infallibility of the Bible,
Homosexuality, Abortion, Genetic Engineering and more. Visit our website
and read the Veritas
articles (the introductory article of each journal issue) and order the
topical back issues you need for personal understanding or for engaging
those outside
the faith. Feel free to copy articles from them for distribution as needed.
Subscribe
today for yourself and others. Upcoming issues cover
the Christian View of War (very relevant today), The New
Perspective
of Paul theology,
Christian View of Ecology, Scientology, Controversial Trends in the
Church, Bible Difficulties,
and Does God Exist? (Atheism is at 14% in the U.S. while a recent Harris
Poll found that 42% of U.S. adults are not "absolutely certain" there
is a God).
Support?
In our last
newsletter (August), we indicated we were in the midst
of a terrible slump in donation assets. We let our need
be known. As a result we have seen
our bill deficit decrease from $50,105 to less than $10,000. But we also
made you aware that a primary staff person had received his modest salary
only one month out of 7 for 2006. As of today that staffer has received
2 months salary out of 10. That's an additional $30,000
in deficit.
We need Christians to prioritize the advance of His kingdom in giving.
If everyone on our mailing list gave just $10.00 per month, we would be
able to really
have an impact in the Church and kingdom.
But if we don't we must
continue to diminish. The following are things we have
done this year despite our
financial hamstring, and how we can advance our
work if we had the resources:
ARC Ministry
- This year
in addition to research and writing our journals
and newsletters, we have contributed scores of entries
in the upcoming Baker Dictionary of Cults and World Religions.
- Our journal
is being translated for us in Macedonia, Peru,
and Romania (we have a translator there on staff).
- Keith
Gibson, our staffer in Kansas City and ARC director,
Craig Branch are collaborating on a new book dealing
with the growing errors in the Apostolic and Prophetic movement.
- We continue
to conduct seminars, conferences and curricula for
Sunday School quarters in local churches.
- Our plan for
2007 is to begin traveling around the U.S. (and some
foreign countries) to conduct conferences
in local churches and stimulate personal evangelism/apologetics. Call us to
explore the possibility of coming to your
church.
- Craig has been invited
to participate with 200 "influential
pastors and Christian leaders" to
a "Think
Tank" in
California to "create an organic growing
commitment to the task of understanding
and responding to the growing
threat of neopaganism in the Church and
culture." Pray
for Craig during this time, Feb. 19-22.
Order our journals on New Age and also
Alternative
Medicine.
- ARC will be a strong
presence at the annual EMNR conference this year
in Birmingham (see ad in this
Worldviews).
- Prison ministry -
Due to the exposure we had through the World magazine
ads, we began to get a
good number of requests for help from Christians who are prisoners. See the "Letters" section
of this newsletter for a sampling.
Because of this need ARC is teaming up with Potter's Hand, a local prison ministry,
to provide counseling, teaching, training
and literature to prisoners locally and nationally. Studies show that 67%
of released prisoners are rearrested
and 50% return to prison within 3 years. Christ changes all of that.
- We are
still praying for a building that will adequately
house our ministry and provide a
Christian Study Center for study, lectures, training
and research for Christians to
have an impact in the kingdom. We
have one of the largest and best apologetics and theological
libraries in the country
but over one-half remains unpacked.
Pray that we can raise
the funds to purchase this facility.
- We continue to teach
classes in bachelors and master degree programs in apologetics
at Southeastern
Bible College and Birmingham Theological Seminary. Also we are continuing teaching
apologetics classes on Wed. nights
at Briarwood Presbyterian
Church in Birmingham, picking back
up on Jan. 10.
- We are continuing
our daily counseling, coaching and responding to information
requests daily.
- Keith Gibson in
our Kansas City office will conduct the chapel service
at Calvary Bible College
and Theological Seminary on Jan. 22nd.
Some Current
News
- American Buddhism
is on the rise. America is no longer a melting pot with
diverse
cultures and
beliefs melding
and conforming to a Judeo-Christian based culture.
It is now a tossed salad, where political correctness
and "tolerance" to
all is held up as a virtue.
In this context, American
Buddhism is emerging and has become the fourth largest
religion here, behind Christianity,
Islam, and Judaism. Professor Bruce Seager,
author of Buddhism in America states, "People are looking for experiential
practices, not just a new belief system or a new set of ethical rules…It's
the transformative practices like meditation which people are really
attracted to."
- Speaking of meditation's
popularity, TM is making a very concerted effort to (1)
infiltrate public school programming
and (2) to position itself as secular science rather than
spiritual/religious. Movie producer David Lynch, an avid
TM follower, is giving grants to public schools to sponsor
TM programs.
ARC became aware of an attempt in a very liberal
school district in Marvis County in California. The transcendental
meditation "club," funded
by Lynch for $175,000 was to have been part of the school district’s
new wellness program.
During the parents info meeting, a former TMer and a
Christian parent protested - loudly. We sent the parent as well as an expert
lawyer in cult litigation
a copy of my book Public Schools: The Sorcerer's New Apprentice, which details
the trends, religious aspects, as well as the legal prohibition of TM in
schools. The district has now dropped the program and the grant was withdrawn.
Make
sure your school does not offer meditation or even yoga. Call us to help
if you do.
- Islam - It should
be clear by now that the original form of Islam is now
the biggest barrier to peace, freedom and
Christianity in current and future history.
There is both
confusion and subterfuge dealt out by the many factions
of Islam to the public. This is partly due to the "holy
war" going
on within Islam to determine which faction will ultimately
speak for and represent Islam.
But apart from the jihads
on one end of the spectrum, and the PR campaign on the
other side, there are 2 other factors to be considered.
One is take over
by population growth. Muslims, in addition to jihad, have a strategy to gain
the majority of votes in free countries by birthrate. The West - Great Britain
and the U.S. are averaging 1.3 children per family cf. a 3.5 rate of Muslims.
Already
England's Muslim population has reached 14%, equivalent
to the percentage of blacks in the U.S. In America Islam
has reached at least 6 million making
it the second largest religion in the U.S.
The second factor is the lack of
commitment of the American Church to evangelize Muslims. During the 20th
century, the global population of Muslims grew to
21% from 12.3% in 1900. Yet only 5-6% of all Christian foreign missionaries
are working among Muslims. The ratio of missions to Muslims compared to other
groups is abysmal. For example, there are 100 Protestant mission groups composed
of 1488 workers in Brazil, with 170 million people. Compare that with 24
agencies and 111 workers in Pakistan, with 150 million people. Part of the
reason is
that most countries are closed and violent to Christians and Christian mission
groups.
But also, as the 1978 Lusanne and the Frontiers mission agency declared,
the lack of progress is due to the fact that "We Christians have loved
so little and have put forth such little effort to regard Muslims as people
like
ourselves…We must set out an agenda of prayer, compassion, and interaction
with Muslims." As Paul said, to the Jew I became a Jew, to win the Jews…as
a Gentile to win Gentiles…I have become all things to all men that
I may somehow win some" (1 Cor. 9:16-24).
Will you intentionally learn
about Islam compared to Christianity and pray, and intentionally reach out
to Muslims in our community? Order our journal
on Islam.
Evangelical Disasters?
As
I began to write this newsletter at the beginning of the
month, very important/relevant events were
unfolding that merited our attention. So I waited
until now to
write (Nov. 9th).
What events? The national elections, the fall of Ted Haggard and Kent
Hovind, all occurred this past week. What significance do these events
have for
the Apologetics Resource Center?
Our raison d'être, our purpose
is to awaken the Church and equip the Church with a personally and culturally
relevant apologetic to enable believers
to have their hearts and minds in tune with God's callings in order to
be fulfilled and be salt and light in the world.
These events and several others have everything to do with that purpose.
For example:
Elections
Most Christians are frustrated, worried, or depressed because the Democrats
won both the House and the Senate. There is a pervasive feeling of helplessness
and hopelessness among even Christians.
After all God's inspired
proverb states, "Trust in the government with
all your heart. Lean not on your own understanding but in all your ways
ac-knowledge the government and they will direct your path."
What
are we to learn from the disappointment and consequences
of the election results?
- That God is neither
a Republican nor a Democrat.
- Our ultimate hope
is not in political parties but in the advance of God's
kingdom.
- That the United States
is not the only place where God resides or that Americans
are His only ambassadors.
- That too many Christians
do not understand the Church's role and responsibilities
in the public square. Some Christians
go too far in equating government with the kingdom of God.
But also too many have instead separated themselves from
governmental involvement, issues, and leadership.
The answer
is to prioritize evangelism and discipleship and
then to more aggressively engage people, ideas, and institutions
with the gospel and Biblical wisdom
and truths. We are definitely called to pray for and influence our government
to reflect Biblical values, as well as to seek God to raise up Christian
leaders
(mature Christian leaders) 1 Tim. 2:1-3. But the next verse reminds us,
directs us, to the first priority - evangelism, "God
who desires all men to be saved and to come to the
knowledge of the truth."
Some evidence of this
kind of success is found in the results of several
state referendums this election. But a closer look
reveals the need to
still prioritize
evangelism and discipleship.
For example a "domestic
partnership" bill
was defeated in Colorado. In the three states (CO, SC, NV) where
legalizing marijuana was a referendum,
all three defeated it. That was encouraging. But in South Dakota
a referendum to ban abortion was defeated and a parental
notification
before abortions on
minors proposition was defeated in California and Oregon. Allowing
embryonic stem cell research was passed in Missouri.
Christians are
excited that seven out of eight states voted to ban same-sex
marriages. They have joined 19 other states making it
constitutionally banned in the majority of states. But
the actual votes counted in
those eight states
were 6,598,502 for the ban, and 3,944,217 against. That means that
over
40% of the voters approved allowing same sex marriage!
That reveals
the growing hardening of conscience and decline of true
moral values in our culture. Twenty years ago, that number
was a
fraction of
that 40%. Ignorance versus knowledge and discernment, apathy
versus conviction and
passion for Christ and His kingdom are targets of the Apologetics
Resource Center.
Hearts of Iron, Feet
of Clay
Ken Hovind is the founder of Creation Science Evangelism
and Dinosaur Adventure Land in Pensacola, and frequent
church speaker against the theory of evolution.
Hovind and
his wife were just convicted (Nov. 2) on 58 counts of
tax evasion. They could face a maximum of 288 years in
prison.
The Hovinds refused to pay
$845,000 in employee taxes stating that his employees are "workers
of God and therefore exempt from paying taxes."
The Hovinds also refused
to respond to IRS agents inquiries forcing them to raid the Hovinds and
seize the records. Included in the convictions
was a charge
of "threats made against investigators and those cooperating with
the investigation."
Did Hovind really not
understand the theological issues on the church-state relationship?
Will this bring about a setback
for the cause of Creation
Science? How will this not promote the cynicism of the unregenerate
toward Christians
and Christianity?
But the latter issue
is significantly magnified by the fall of Ted Haggard,
pastor of New Life Church in Colorado
Springs, and president
of the National
Association of Evangelicals.
As most Christians (and
non-Christians) are by now aware, Haggard was exposed by
a homosexual professional
male "escort" for
sexual sin as well as buying a drug (methamphetamine) for himself.
The "escort" claims
Haggard had sex "no emotions" with him about once a month
for 3 years, using a pseudonym, "Art."
Haggard, at first,
denied everything, even knowing the "escort." Within
a day though he then said some of it was true but some wasn't.
He claimed to have only received a massage by him and did buy the
drugs
once but never used
them.
But then more of the
truth came out later in the day. Haggard resigned his presidency
of the NAE and stepped down from the pastorate
at
his church, as
his overseers counseled and investigated. Two days later the
overseers announced they determined "without a doubt" that
Haggard had "committed
sexually immoral conduct" and that Haggard's resignation
was permanent.
On Sunday, Haggard's
letter to the congregation (and nation)
was read in which he said, "I alone am responsible for
the confusion caused by my inconsistent statements. The fact
is,
I am guilty of sexual immorality, and I take responsibility
for the entire problem. I am a deceiver and a liar."
Haggard
also asked, "Please forgive me. I am so embarrassed
and ashamed. I caused this and I have no excuse. I am a sinner.
I have fallen. I desperately
need to be forgiven and healed."
Significantly, Haggard
also said, "There is a part of my life that is
so repulsive and dark that I've been warring against it
all of my adult life. For extended periods of time, I would
enjoy
victory and rejoice in freedom.
Then, from time to time, the dirt that I thought was gone
would resurface and I would find myself thinking thoughts
and experiencing the desires that were
contrary to everything I believe and teach."
Haggard
also said that, "The accusations leveled against
me are not all true, but enough of them are true…” This
may explain why a lie detector test on Haggard's accuser
did register "some deception" on
the accuser's part.
It is significant to
note that the media has had a field day with this as well
as reporting
a number of mixed
responses from Christians.
In
addition, the
pro-homosexual community and clergy have understandably
weighed in (the accuser claims he spoke out because
of Haggard's
perceived
public
hypocritical
and
political stand against homosexuality and same-sex
marriage issue).
Repercussions and Reflections
What
can we learn from this about ourselves, about the faith,
about the Church? Many Christians, (not just liberals
and homosexuals) had a reaction of disappointment,
anger, or even (as myself) an "I told you so." In a moment I
want to address the wrong and unhelpful arrogance and self-righteousness
that
is inside most of us. There can be a redeeming affect for us in all of
this.
Ted Haggard's failure
is one of a recent (and ancient) disturbing lineage of
immoral failures of Christian leaders. There is the recent
history
of Swaggart's
involvement with prostitutes. Then came Jim Bakker's adulterous fall with
Jessica Hahn and imprisonment for financial scams, and his wife Tammy's
slide into
drugs and divorce.
Then came the exposure
of "Bishop" Earl Paulk's
manipulative coercion in sexual affairs with members at Chapel Hill Harvester
Church in Atlanta.
Then we had the exposure of Trinity Broadcasting Network's leader Paul
Crouch's homosexual affair with a staffer and how TBN paid a $425,000
hush settlement.
On top of all that came
the revelations of numerous Roman Catholic clergy's
acts of pedophilia. At least Ted Haggard finally acknowledged at least
some guilt and his church took action. Paulk and Crouch have not, and
their organizations
have not.
So what are we to learn
from this? God says that He "works
all things together for good to those who love Him and are called
according to His purpose" (Rom.
8:28).
- Christians need to beware
of elevating and looking to "celebrity" leaders,
especially in today's cultural scene.
- Leadership
accountability is so important. Haggard's adopted system
is a "free market" ministry model
where little, if any, spiritual maturity or accountability
can be expected. Haggard had no personal on sight accountability.
His "overseers" were in other churches, in other
cities. This is not good nor biblical.
- Haggard
was president of the National Association of Evangelicals,
which according
to
the liberal press and people's
perception, speaks for "30 million Christians" in
the U.S. Haggard doesn't always speak for me. His alliance
with Peter Wagner and the "5-fold ministry" doctrine,
and his free-market approach is fraught with long term problems.
But more complex is the issue of how the Church gets involved
in politics, especially with a particular political party.
- Christians
need to become more knowledgeable and conversant on the
issue of homosexuality. We tend to treat it as the
unpardonable sin and usually demonstrate little compassion
for those caught in it.
Haggard's
fall was not a brief temptation or momentary lapse, but
an ongoing
series of acts and
deception. This has opened
the door for homosexual activists
to broadcast their message. They point to "scientific evidence" that
homosexuality is biological in nature and thus not perverse. They ridicule
the nurture not nature argument by many evangelicals and blame the shame,
humiliation and depression of homosexuals within the Christian sphere,
on this "wrong
message." This incident has enhanced their spin.
In
1997 a Gallup poll demonstrated that only 13% of people believed one
was "born" or
innately homosexual; while 56% attributed it to "upbringing." But
those percentages have shifted in 2006 research as now 42% believe
one is born that way compared to 37% who believe it is learned.
Now
we are again hearing from homosexual clergy urging Haggard to come
join them and be happy as he really is without having to endure the
condemnation and false shame.
In response, first we must say that
even if there is a biological component (and there is no conclusive
science to prove that), this
does not contradict
Scripture. The effects of the Fall bring genetic abnormalities. It
gets back to the basis on how one arrives at what is normal and what
is not,
what is
determinative and what is not. The world has psychologists and medicines
to correct or treat innate abnormalities.
But
we also know that choices, our own sins and the effects of the sins
of others
upon us, also
have a very real and substantial impact.
Regarding
genetic
dispositions, twin studies certainly point away "scientifically" from
the genetic normalcy argument. Order our "Abandoning Nature" and "Calling
Evil Good" Areopagus Journals for a thorough apologetic on
these issues (along with same-sex marriage).
- I believe that the
biggest lesson for us is the reality of God's revelation
to all of us in Romans 7-8:17. Rather
than climb up on our Pharisaical thrones and look down
our self-righteous noses at Ted Haggard, we should recognize
and be strongly reminded of the fact that all of us are
big
sinners needing grace.
All of us have secrets, or a secret
life that we keep hidden, that we will do anything to
cover up. This is especially true of our thought lives.
As
one pastor interviewed for the story on Haggard said, "I
realize that I'm just one decision away from doing something
that could wreck a church and
wreck my life." Gordon Mac-Donald, a Christian leader and pastor who
committed adultery 20 years ago, was restored and provides important insights
for us.
He writes, "I have come to believe that there is a deeper person
in many of us who is not unlike an assassin. This deeper person can be the
source of
attitudes and behaviors we normally stand against in our conscience being.
But it seeks to destroy us and masses energies that, unrestrained, tempt
us to do the very things we 'believe against.'"
As Paul says, "I
do not understand my own actions, for I do not do what I want, but I do the
very thing I hate…for I have the desire to do what
is right, but not the ability to carry it out…For I delight in the
law of God in my inner being, but I see in my members another law waging
war against
the law of my mind and making me captive to the law of sin that dwells in
my members.
"
Wretched man that I am, who will deliver me from this body of death? Thanks
be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord!...There is therefore now no condemnation
for those who are in Christ Jesus for the law of the Spirit has set you free
in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death."
So let's pray for Ted and
his wife, 5 children and for ourselves. We are all fakers and hypocrites compared
to true righteousness. Let us all not gloss
over or rationalize the temptations in our thought life. Let us instead trust
in the love, mercy and power in Christ, through the Spirit.
Let us pursue
accountability with others in the body - intentionally and with transparency
and vulnerability. This is God's normal prescription for life
- "confess your sins to one another, exhort, encourage, forgive, admonish,
pray for, and love one another."
A Mormon President?
Mitt
Romney is a Mormon. The current governor of Ted Kennedy's
Massachusetts, was a two year missionary, a temple Mormon,
attended BYU, and served as president
of the Boston area congregations for 9 years. He also finished second
to Bill Frist in the straw poll of the Southern Republican
Leadership Conference
(SPLC) as a choice to run for President of the U.S. (March, 2006). The
SPLC consists of 26 Southern and Midwestern states where
Christians and the political
right have a stronghold.
So why, being a Mormon,
is Romney so popular among conservatives and Christians?
Even for political
conservatives Romney has a very problematic history
of being
a pragmatist (liar) on issues rather than on spiritual/moral motives.
Should
one's religion be a litmus test for political office?
Joe Lieberman is a conservative Jew. Orrin Hatch is a Mormon.
Harry Reid is a Mormon.
George Bush claims Christianity. Ted Kennedy and John Kerry are Roman
Catholic.
But this is not the
same or real issue. Regarding Romney, we are talking about
the powerful office of President of
the United States of America.
And we must
ask, "which religion" and what are the beliefs of that
religion, and does he believe in actually adhering to those precepts
and edicts?
Would you vote for a conservative radical Muslim?
Romney appears to
be a political and ethical chameleon, while running for senate
and then governor in Massachusetts he positioned himself
as a moderate, speaking
out of both sides of his mouth on issues like abortion, homosexuality
and embryonic stem cell research. If he is truly a committed Mormon
as he indicates, he would
be firmly against those practices.
Yet during the campaign,
Romney was asked given that he said he "personally
opposes abortion," how can he in good conscience support
a law that enables women to have an abortion, and even let the
government
pay for it?
Romney answered, "One
of the great things about our nation is that we are entitled
to have strong personal beliefs
and we encourage others to do
the same. But as a nation we recognize the right of all people
to believe as they want and not to impose our beliefs on other
people. I believe that abortion
should be safe and legal in this country."
That response
is imbecilic! To believe what you want is one thing but beliefs
that manifest in actions that affect, harm,
or kill
others being made into
law is entirely different. So Romney would allow his and
abortion rights
activists to "impose" their beliefs on the rest
of us?!
Romney gave the same
response regarding the government requiring
Boy Scouts to allow homosexual scout leaders to serve or
lose their tax-exempt
status.
The Mormon Church which sponsors many scout troops said
they would pull out if that happened and Romney himself
was then
serving on
the National
Board
of Directors for the Scouts. Yet when asked his position
Romney gave his classic two-faced answer, "I believe
the Boy Scouts of America does a wonderful service to this
country. I support the right of the Boy Scouts to decide
what
it wants to do on that issue. I feel that all people should
be allowed to participate in the Boy Scouts regardless
of their orientation." What?!
Romney then proceeded
to alter a long standing tradition during the 2002 Winter
Olympic Games in Utah as he was
appointed leader
of those
games.
Romney eliminated
the traditional very visible presence of scout volunteers
and instead went out of his way to invite and include
the homosexual
community
to serve as volunteers.
So then Romney was elected
governor of Massachusetts. So now he is positioning himself
for
the Republican nomination
for
President and
he is attempting
to lean over to the other side of the road on moral
issues.
But one perspective
given by some Christian leaders, on Romney's acceptability,
I believe is wrong. Chuck
Colson
told the
Weekly Standard last year,
that he "could
support Romney in good conscience as a fellow social
conservative on most issues." Dr.
Richard Land, president of the Ethics and Religious
Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention
stated that even though Mormonism is not Christian,
if it comes to a choice between a Mormon social conservative
and someone like
the more liberal Rudy Giuliani, he thinks most evangelicals
could vote for Romney. He stated, "We are not
electing a theologian-in-chief. We are electing a
commander-in-chief."
I disagree. Everyone
is a theologian. Legislation and leadership are inevitably
based on someone's
concept
of morality.
Questions need to
be asked and answered.
Is Mitt Romney truly a Mormon? A temple Mormon?
Or
is he only nominal like the Kennedy's are nominal
Catholics? How can he
hold two contradictory
positions
at the same time and not signify pragmatism over
ethics?
But there are even two
more embedded issues. If Romney is a sincere and committed
Mormon, then
does he not
believe that
God himself
appears and
counsels the
LDS prophet regularly and guides "His Church?" Must
not Romney submit to that leadership? This is
a big gap between the acceptance of a Jewish
or
Catholic conservative politician. But wait, there's
more.
The Mormon church, prophets,
teach that all temple Mormons take an oath under penalty
of death not
to reveal the
temple doctrine
secrets.
In
those oaths
there is a commitment to "consecrate your
time, talents, and everything to the Church
of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints." Mormon
scripture and doctrine states that all other
churches (specifically Protestants) are
the "church of the devil, the whore of
the earth."
And then there is the "White
Horse Prophesy" claimed to be given
by God to the LDS prophet Joseph Smith (when
he was running for President), in 1843. This "prophesy" stated
that a day was coming when "a
terrible revolution will take place in the
land of America," and we "will
be left without a Supreme Government" and
the U.S. Constitution will "hang
by a thread." Then the Mormon church
leaders would ride in on a white horse and
take over,
saving the Republic.
Romney must be asked
if he, as a true Mormon, believes these
things (and others). Why or
why not? Actually
we can get
a glimpse on
how he would
answer. When
asked by a reporter for the Atlantic Monthly, "How
Mormon are you?" Romney
gave his blurry non-committal answer, "the
principles and values I aspire to live
by - family, beliefs in Jesus Christ, and
serving
one's neighbor and
community."
But the reporter pressed
the question asking about some of the
particulars of Mormon
belief and practice
to which
Romney
replied, "I'll just say
those sorts of things I'll keep private."
Not
when you want to be President of the
United States Mr. Romney.
It’s
time to order our journal on Mormonism, “The
Cult Next Door” to
learn how to share effectively with

Letters
Hi, I recently
was given a copy of your Worldviews newsletter and decided
to write for more information.
I’m
interested in apologetics and seeking
to focus my attention on this
area of study. Hopefully ARC can point me in the right
direction. Any response is appreciated. Thank you...prisoner,

I am a first time inmate. When I got here an inmate let
me read your booklet and I found it very interesting. I was
hoping you would be able to send me this booklet to keep
it for myself. I would really love to have this booklet along
with 2 others I have read about in the back of that one.

We are missionaries overseas in a hard to reach area. We
appreciate what you are able to send us. Thank you for your
work, these tools and your encouragement. Many blessings.
